Volunteering at school

Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your child’s education as well as get to know the staff and other parents and carers.

Research shows that children benefit when their parents or carers are actively involved in their education and school life.

You can help by:

  • listening to children read in the classroom
  • volunteering on sports days
  • helping supervise excursions
  • getting involved in fundraising activities
  • joining school committees.

To complete and attain a working with children check, please follow this link: Working with children check, remember to choose 'Volunteer' (it will be free of charge). Then follow the instructions and visit your local RTA, they will check identification and process application.

You will be emailed an application receipt, then when the application is finalised you will receive another email with your 'Working with children' number - this number will begin with WWC.

Please forward a copy to the school office or email a copy to york-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au - in the subject line please write 'Working with children check'.
